Meals

When a senior loved one wishes to continue living at home as they get older and we find they are in need of more help, one of the biggest concerns is proper nutrition and home safety.  Having healthy meals delivered to their homes shows you care, fills their needs and allows them to continue living independently.   Here in Manhattan, we have many options!

The following include a list of wonderful, economical (usually either $1 per meal or even free) meals delivered to homes of seniors.  Of course, we could list services like FreshDirect and other local services but our blog tries to focus around economical options for seniors that are high in quality and service. Here they are. If anyone has any experiences regarding any of these services, please feel free to post a comment

Program #1. Meals on Wheels

Eligibility Criteria for Home Delivered Meals

You may be eligible for home delivered meals if you are:

* 60 years of age or older.
* Physically and/or mentally incapacitated and in need of some assistance.
* Unable to prepare nutritious meals or have no friends or family to do so for him/her.
* Receiving only limited Medicaid services (recipients of Medicaid home and personal care services are currently ineligible for home delivered meals).

How do you sign up? Click this link and provide them with the zip code of the senior

Program#2. Gods Love We Deliver

The Scoop: one of my favorites since the food is great, very plentiful, free food, free delivery – however, you need to have a diagnosis that qualifies you for these services, call them.

Eligibility Criteria for God’s Love We Deliver. GLWD prepares individually tailored, home-delivered meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.  We believe that no one should suffer the dual crises of sickness and hunger.  While we make every effort to enroll individuals in our program, at this time we are unable to enroll individuals who come to us due to:

* Poverty
* Mental illness
* Advanced age and frailness
* An injury, chronic disease or physical syndrome since birth.

How do you sign up?   Click this (it is a little more tedious than Meals on Wheels but I promise it is worth it (if you qualify))
